I thought it might be a nice idea to start a thread where we can tell each other a little bit more about ourselves outside of our shared interest in *BSD. I've participated in these types of threads on other forums before and they have generally been fun and interesting, so here it goes... Tell us something (anything) about you. What are some of your hobbies outside of your *BSD/ *NIX life? I'll go first. P.S. This is not prescriptive, feel free to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable - Where are you from: Melbourne, Australia - What do you do for a living: I'm Social Worker working for an Australia wide mental health service. I work with a team of multi-disciplinary staff to support our indigenous communities affected by complex trauma, alcohol and drug addiction, and homelessness. - What are your hobbies: Other than tech, I really enjoy cycling. Melbourne is a great city for riding because it's mostly flat. I recently started brewing my own beer and it wasn't bad. I like Stout in the winter and IPA in the summer. - What are you listening to lately: Lately I've been getting into Polyphia cos I'm also a bit of a guitar nerd. But on regular rotation is Dance Gavin Dance . That said, my all time favourite band is NOFX and by extension I'm really digging this album by Chabad Religion . - Where are you from: Luxembourg - What do you do for a living: I'm a trainer, teaching software development (Java, SQL, HTML/CSS, React, etc) and related topics (Linux, design patterns, Scrum), and also a bit of soft skills (for IT teams). - What are your hobbies: writing (mainly poetry). Where are you from: I’m from Lecce but I live in Bergamo (Italy). What do you do for a living: I’m a Solutions Architect. What are your hobbies: Reading, mostly. What are you listening lately: Classical (Strauss and Handel are my favourites) and Opera (Puccini’s La Bohème and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville are my favourites, followed by Verdi’s Aida). That said I’m also into electronic music, so I enjoy listening hardtek, dubstep, deep house and so on.

I'm a guy from Sweden living in Japan. Interested in minimalism. Hobbies and activities outside of tinkering with NetBSD and single board computers mostly includes interaction design, reading and taking walks. I'm an all eater when it comes to music, one song I often listen to recently is Decades by Skjalg A. Skagen.

Jay I guess you could say that TOOL got me into Math Rock. Their drummer is amzing! It's such hard music to tap along to because the time signatures are so complex. A Perect Circle was also a favourite of mine.

What do you do for a living: Im a husband, father, work full time in chemical manufacturing as a chemical systems technicians and go to school full time for software engineering.
What are your hobbies: Fantasize about the day when I can finally get more than 4 hours of sleep, lol. I like tinkering around on computers (big shocker). I still pick up my guitar or bass occasionally. However, on my free time I am usually either busy taking care of the kids or doing homework.

What a curious coincidence, La Bohème and the Barber of Seville are my favourite 2 too. I went watching Te Barber of Seville at Circo Massimo last summer They moved the outdoor opera summer season from the Baths of Caracalla to Circo Massimo due to covid and space restraints. I discovered myself actually preferring the latter solution.

- Where are you from? Well, I come from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and maybe next 1-2 months it won't be lockdown anymore since there is a decrease infection in community.
- About myself: I am a first year student in college and I am very exciting to learn things around me.
- My hobby: Learning BSD (right now is NetBSD), Linux (right now is Ubuntu), and Windows. I like going to Gym or going outside to do street workout. I also love playing piano and guitar. I do like listening music although I hear a lot of songs but I never have a music style. Most of songs I ever have in my music box were classical music.

I don't usually online in this forum since there are a lot of homework, housework, and my future tasks. But I am still in here to wait for more people use BSD perhaps? 🥴

Update: Currently, I use NetBSD and OpenSUSE. And about Ubuntu I don't like deb and I also try Arch, Gentoo but don't like them so I end up with RPM distro like OpenSUSE.

Really? Well, people in here quite nice and friendly but not all of them can speak English fluently, if you're lucky you may find someone that can speak to you. I'm not sure which place you will visit first, but whenever you first come to Vietnam, you should try Pho. It is our favorite food that can eat at anywhere and any time.
