I'm using xst which is a fork of st. this fork reads .Xresources for certain terminal settings.

This results in an error when running certain scripts:

The solution was to set it to xterm-256color like I have for XTerm. However, I am trying to figure out how to add xst to the terminfo database, which I cannot seem to locate on NetBSD

Another thing I cant figure out it, xprop shows no window id:??? I need this so I can use this output in the fetch script to output term: xst using xprop -id

Since xst is a fork of st try one of the many st variants already in the terminfo DB: st-direct or st-256color

/usr/share/misc/terminfo.cbd, see terminfo(5). There's also a local file for personal definitions in $HOME/.terminfo.cbd.

Please feel free to revise my patch to xst if you'd like to.
Maybe also change this, SUBST_SED.configdefh+= -e 's,xst-256color,xterm,g' in the package Makefile

I'll try this first thing tonight after work. Just to clarify, this solves any issues with root commands? With rvp previous suggestion, I would get some messed up terminal when trying to edit a file in vim using under root privileges.

EDIT: And just for the record, prior to this issue, I never had any terminfo.cdb file that I could find on my system. Not in my $HOME directory nor in /usr/share/misc/. So now I have ~/.terminfo.cdb after running the tic command from rvp's post.

Rename the file I've sent you by e-mail to .terminfo.cdb and place it in your home directory.
Set in your .Xresourses

there you go. No more tput garbage 😉

EDIT: Just so you don't get paranoid. The file I've sent you was manually generated from an xst build with the modifications I've mentioned above.
Manually generated means, I've cd into the package build directory and issued tic -sx st.info to generate the database.

This worked, however I still get issues runnig root privileges.
For example:

Yes but, on my system that file already exists, so I didn't want to overwrite it.

Pretty unlikely. It's part of the base system, and without it a lot of curses-based programs would've been messed up--and you would've noticed this.

There's no need to create any terminfo DB at all, really. From what I can see on GH, st.info has the same capabilities as the ones in the standard terminfo definitions. Just tell xst to use one of the already existing st definitions:

st.termname:    st-256color

for 256 colour. Or

st.termname:    st-direct

for 24-bit colour if xst supports that. echo $TERM should give you the same string.

Regardless, after fixing my please.ini to allow the use of pleaseedit I will just use that from now on, much like using sudoedit.

Your right, and the only reason I noticed anything is because I was trying to get echo $TERM to return xst without a bunch of sed. I wanted my fetch script to be transferable and therefore only use echo $TERM.
