My "battle" station is a T480s with:

i7-8650U
16 GB RAM
256 GB Intel SSD Pro 6000p NVME SSD (OpenBSD FDE)
256 GB WDC PC SN520 NVME SSD (in WWAN port, 2280 cuted in half, Haiku)
Using rEFInd for boot.

I am looking for the best way to run Settlers 2 on OpenBSD right now.

Here's my G4 and G3 I have a G5 not the dual core just dual processor but the motherboard and/or power supply blew up (smelled bad threw it outside for a bit) and I haven't looked at fixing it since, probably cheaper to buy another one sadly. The G3 is running NetBSD as I can't get OpenBSD working on it and the G4 runs OpenBSD but the GPU doesn't work (not accelerated) so its basically useless... I tried it on NetBSD but the second CPU wouldn't work probably need to make a custom kernel or something just lazy. OpenBSD probably won't support macppc forever anyways like NetBSD will. Both have cheap Patriot 120GB SSDs running over IDE with a Startech SATA to IDE Converter (yes I know pci is faster).

I would really love to have some better use case for these machines, I think it would be cool if you could continue running something like this even 20 years later, after all the G3 was a video editing machine back in it's time if anyone can believe that! So in theory we should at the very least be able to edit the same type of 144-240p footage and export it no? Is it that our modern software is that unoptimized or just not focused on preserving older hardware like this? Imagine donating machines we have today like a Pi or something 20 years from now to poorer countries and they could actually create something with it or even with this hardware (if we don't include power requirements and shipping big heavy desktops). That's what I really like about NetBSD is that they support this old stuff, Good Job! If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

oui Just posted my setup on /r/thinkpad and someone mentioned it gave Macintosh TAM vibes.
Never heard of Macintosh TAM before but OH MY! did Apple used to make beautiful hardware back in the days... What happened to these kind of beautifully crafted industrial designs in the modern market today? It's from 1997 but some of it's design language is timeless, hats off to Jony Ive for having taste. Too bad Steve Jobs trashed the TAM and that Ive didn't continue to explore similar designs later on.

Looks like it's begging to have NetBSD installed on to it!

Have acquired a few refurb Dell Optiplex Machines from amazon over the past few months all of which are currently running OpenBSD.

The top machines specs
i5 7500T
32GB Ram at 2666MHz
2TB Samsung 870 EVO
It runs a Bitcoin Lightning Node

The middle machines specs
i3 7100T
12GB Ram at 2133MHz
500GB Samsung 980 M.2 SSD
500GB Samsung 870 EVO

It's running NextCloud I tried to get RAID 1 setup but I couldn't seem to get it to installboot for OpenBSD so I will setup backups some other way just haven't had the time to mess with it.

The last machine specs are

The machines were around 90$ for the i3 models and 150$ for the i5. Quite the steal I think, each came with 8GB of 2133MHz ram and a basic 128GB/256GB SSD as well wifi works to. Worth looking into if you guys need some basic servers but don't want to drop a lot of cash. Love how small these machines are and they intake through the front so you can stack them without worrying about cooling. They should make mini server racks this size lol.

love it. You always have good ctwm configs I'm thinking about getting a T480 myself. My T420 is still chugging along just fine tho, and the T430s is great but has an awful battery. Interesting discussion on the mailing list btw.....

oui I regained my sanity, reintroduced my mouse and instead tossed away my mechanical keyboard. A laptop only setup has brought me some peace of mind. Also installed a little laptop stand on the back cover of my ThinkPad, a slight tilt and increase in height has improved my laptop experience a lot.

I have come full circle:

laptop only -> desktop -> SBC desktop -> (desktop-like) laptop setup -> laptop only

The only computers I own now is two ThinkPad X260s (one as daily driver and the other one for compiling, rendering and as a benchmark testbed). Lastly a Raspberry Pi 4 as a server, all running NetBSD of course.

I have managed to boot OpenBSD, FreeBSD and NetBSD (and current Debian) on the LinkStar H68K.

Warning: the support is not yet complete, better ask me before you buy it.
