This has been around for ages, hasn't it? (I recall seeing it on sunsite.unc.edu)
And it works...after a fashion:

on Linux
if you use GCC (the .m4 scripts misdetect stuff with Clang)
if you don't mind the centering function not working
or the screen-artifacts when in X...

I run OBSD and Haiku on my rusty old T440s. While it is an i7 with 4600U CPU it starts to show its age and i am looking for an alternative, maybe an x280 or other ₁₂,5" laptop.
Just bought for my sister an ASUS ultrabook ( ZenBook 13 OLED UX325JA-KG321WS ) with OLED screen, a similar laptop would be nice, but it was $$$$, i don't buy expensive machines like that for own use. (I nevertheless will try to boot OBSD via USB on her machine just to see how well is it supported.)

Seems to be working just fine. Sunglasses recommended for the OLED screen.

An ITX Build in a Sliger S620 I have been upgrading over the years considering swapping the case at some point or moving back to a laptop but I'd hate to downgrade the CPU. The GPU was downgraded last year from a 3090 as I haven't really been enjoying video games these days they all seem to bore me, I am still interested in the older stuff like WoW Classic tho but haven't played in over a year. The Monitor I used to use for gaming it will be replaced with an Ultrawide (I've used both the 21:9 and 32:9 versions and prefer 32:9) or multiple 4K monitors. I have only been using BSD for about 5 months I have tested FreeBSD NetBSD and OpenBSD, DragonflyBSD wouldn't run at all for me. I have decided to settle with OpenBSD my background is coming from Gentoo Linux, I love how light OpenBSD, the clean code base, and it's efficient ram usage. There are problems I have with OpenBSD like Wine not working at all so I can't even play a custom server like Turtle WoW which is a shame as it runs on FreeBSD so it's not the perfect OS but it's pretty close.

pin got to compile from time to time... I used to have a 3990X with 256GB Ram but I had to sell it I just didn't have a use case for it and couldn't afford to lose the money sitting in hardware. Plus ram is cheaper now 64GB of DDR4 can be had for like 200$ these days even in SODIMM

The more cores you have the more ram you use, GCC takes around 2GB per core Clang is around 1GB sometimes less depends on the packages as well of course. I understand the performance benefits and making things more lightweight but on BSD I don't see many of these compile options like on Gentoo. I think we need a separate package manager for compiling packages or a rework of pkg, not a priority of course but managing compiling ports manually is a real pain I find. If the machine works for you that's great no need to upgrade for the sake of upgrading but in the future u will be able to get 64GB for a bargain and imagine how long that will last you!

Because that's what I have and I maintain quite a few packages on NetBSD.

That's fine, they still compile in a resonable amount of time. Firefox builds in 2h30min and I don't need to be looking at it.

2h30min isn't horrible I've heard worse in Gentoo forums/reddit

That sucks I got into BSD to compile less packages the time was just a hassle and the build failures I may get back into it the future. I tried -current when I first got into BSD it's more unstable than the stable release (obviously) at least on my hardware but stable also has issues (just less) for me again I assume due to my hardware being newer.

capa150 I have one of these I only have the 300MHz with 64MB of ram in it right now though with a 120GB SSD, So it doesn't run an X Server I also have the G4 DP 1.25GHz but no BSD will read the Radeon 9000 GPU for me so it's stuck on MacOS. I'd buy ram for the G3 but I don't have much of a use case for it other than collection, what do you use yours for?
