Fair enough, I stand corrected then 😉
Although in my defense (and this argument is purely anecdotal, ofc), this is the first time I hear about priv
command ever, although I consider myself to be kinda geek for non-mainstream operating systems and programming languages, and NetBSD devotee in particular. Quick googling around shows there appear to be no articles, no presentations, no mentions of it, no mention in the NetBSD guide, not even man page as far as I can tell - https://man.netbsd.org/priv. It is not part of base system, not part of any established or promoted workflows. Compare this to ubiquitous mention of sudo and now doas as its main competitor for similar use cases. Propaganda is king, so no wonder people will know about and use tools that are praised and promoted.
Speaking of promotion, thanks to @nia 's presentations about native interfaces (audio, wscons) and thanks to many articles on part of other people about NVMM's development, I got really persuaded about the usefulness and sophistication of those. We need more advocacy like this (at least blog posts, but preferably Wikipedia mentions, other Wiki's mentions) for tools that make NetBSD unique, otherwise no one will use them, simply because they would not know about them. I will try to do my advocacy part as well, but I am by no means no NetBSD dev yet, and therefore my knowledge about those features is rather limited atm, as you can see.
