nia vazub there doesn't seem to be much interest in HAMMER. Current filesystem developments in the pipeline are improved UDF support and ZFS in the bootloader.
vazub nia I see, thanks for the update. Are there any technical considerations against that or mostly lack of devs/capacity? Sorry if this is not the proper topic to ask about this, but I am craving for some tech insights and can't seem to find any at the moment. At least on paper, HAMMER2 boasts kinda same perks ZFS has, while still being permissive-licensed - so my default assumption would be that it might interest BSD-crowd. Yet I don't see much interest in its adoption at the moment, which makes me curious as to why not.
nia vazub we had a brief discussion about it at some point. I remember the general conclusion being "too much complex work when there's already a solution we find reliable" (ZFS). a lot is at risk when you add a new filesystem with write support.
nia JuvenalUrbino It's not for drives like you would find on a desktop or server system, it's for raw flash - like on some embedded boards. Word on the street is that it's pretty slow and inefficient, but it might be worth extracting its raw flash capabilities and adapting them for FFS.
strawman2511 Bruno you mean the CPU? If you can try to boot to NetBSD live usb try to check for dmesg output and see if it work. I also have a new laptop through but install NetBSD inside it seem like a risk choice when I don't have graphic card and sound driver so I decide to put it inside Virtualbox. Maybe you can try to test it inside Virtual Machine, I know it isn't smooth than real hardware but perhaps a great experience to learn about Operating System.
20-100 Posted 5 hours ago on the NetBSD 10.0 releng wiki page: branch planed around May 9, 2022 🙂 🙂 🙂
pfr 20-100 Does this mean we should change the title of this thread to Wishlist for NetBSD 11 ? Are new things still being added this close to release?
puhaTek More example "modload" template drivers, one for a pci wireless driver and another for a graphics card driver so we can use it as a template when attempting to port a Linux driver over. Would like to get my Acer Swift 113 with Intel HD up and running at 1080p, and the wifi on my old ASUS up and running.
Mosfet Are there any news regarding branching 10 @nia ??? If I remember correctly, there was this blocker from May: https://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-kern/2022/05/24/msg028105.html Is this still unresolved? Are there any other blockers?
Mosfet pin I know this page, although I don't think that it is updated often, since it states: branch delayed (again) due to EA issues (see above), probably will happen around June 7. And now it is September... :P
Jay @nia 's NetBSD 10 talk after 13th min https://bsdtv-player.secdn.net/theatre/1533910d-8f94-4a30-94ff-6cfd8e4504ba Edit : presentation link https://netbsd.org/gallery/presentations/nia/eurobsdcon2022/releng.html
Mosfet Jay TBH, I have to agree with this guy on reddit: Just to clarify: the page makes it seem like it's already been released, because it already talks of 10.0 as if it already exists… [https://www.reddit.com/r/NetBSD/comments/xgtcrk/comment/ioubp8n/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3]
