Hi, I recently switched from Linux to NetBSD. I was a Slackware user for about 20 years. I am running NetBSD on a Lenovo X260 laptop. I wanted to document how I set things up for my self and share it with others. Does anyone have a recommendation where to publish my docs? In case anyone wonders here is what I did up to now: * setup usb wifi with wpa_supplicant, installed firefox and thunderbird * setup desktops (mate and xfce - still have to decide which to use, probably mate with i3wm) * setup of a development environment for AVR / PIC24 / dsPIC microcontrollers: - installed git, linux compat layer and avr toolchain - installed xc16 compiler - installed microchips custom gdb called mdb - installed vim The next steps I plan are: * setting up an editor for X, something where I can easily navigate through code (maybe kakoune or helix?) * trying to get the appimage of nextcloud client to run * experimenting with audio (puredata and try to get any daw up and running) Cheers, Felix

Safe choice; the thinkpad(4) driver eases life quite a bit.
My current NetBSD desktop is a Thinkpad T460.

This is commendable and welcome. I always discover something in other people's notes.
Aside from hosting your own site, the best way to start and make your contributions accessible by everyone is to write on this forum's wiki (tag a thread as a wiki entry). Valuable content may be later revised by a developer and added to the official documentation.

@nortonham The OS of my youth was AmigaOS which I understood quite well. Before Slackware I tried: Windows, some Linux distros, xxxBSD. I did not understand any of those like AmigaOS. I did like NetBSD the most because it seemed to me much cleaner than the rest and I liked its documentation but I could not get it to do what I needed so I sticked to Slackware. Going to NetBSD is like doing something I always wanted but never dared to take the time or had no confidence because of lack of knowledge. I dare to learn now. xD

Also I started doing some mindfulness practices lately and those reminded me to rather be true to my self and take the time for stuff I really like to do instead of making unsatisfactory compromises.

And yet another one: I was reading about how to deal with climate change and I think using a clean non bloat OS might not help much but who knows what is becoming of my NetBSD journey. Maybe I will get rid of Nextcloud and switch to rsync/ sftp. Maybe I will be able to run NetBSD as my server OS on a small ARM machine instead of my bloated Xeon machine. I might find a good GUI app to sync my phone with rsync/ sftp instead of Nextcloud.

pin Yepp, I can confirm that syncthing works fine but I suspect that two way synchronization has a bug and others have also bumped into the same issue (data loss) but noone caught it red handed yet. So my two cents here is to set up the sync directory on the phone as "send only" and on the desktop as "receive only". That works fine.
