I understand the point being made, but as long as NetBSD is much smaller/less popular people will ask the question. The author himself uses FreeBSD over netbsd, I assume for some technical reason.
On places like reddit for example, people will be genuinely curious about why you use something like *BSD or illumos over linux, because linux is extremely mainstream and familiar to them. I think that curiosity is fair enough; not everyone starts out interested in operating systems.
FreeBSD gets more publicity and corporate backing, OpenBSD gets attention because of its focus on security, and the perception that it's more secure than other OS's. When NetBSD is discussed, it's strength is always how is runs on everything. But there is far less self promotion from NetBSD than the other BSD's.
