@"nortonham"#p12337 Yes, Solene falls definitely within the sort of things I had in mind. I wouldn't mind having it regularly linked here. My main problem is keeping track of new posts from authors I like, since not everybody implements a RSS2/Atom feed, and honestly, for some reason I don't like rss as much as I did in the past now. This is also one of the reasons why I decided to start a newsserver.

Possibly....or more likely just a writer that is used to doing things the linux way. A couple of the criticisms in the article were valid imo, but some others I didn't think were fair. Hopefully when 10 is released the same author gives it more of a chance.

Yeah I didn't get it. The author has lots of experience. I assume it's trying to be an article from a new user's perspective. But we all started somewhere, and are able to figure it out and how to use it just fine.

The manjaro distro (based on arch linux and extremely popular) has forgot to renew its ssl certs, and not for the first time. This is one of many problems manjaro has had in the past.

this is great. One thing that I'm wondering about is the translation. The author uses two words "fryukhovovod and linukhovod" and I wonder if that's just an anglicized version of the original Russian. I wonder what the author is actually referring to? I don't think it's important to the overall article, but it did get my attention.

I really respect how much detail he went into.

What he explains about tcsh and hasing/re-hashing I never about that before...neat

edit: if I ever decide to buy lenovo ideapad 3 I'll know which blog to reference when installing FreeBSD on it!

"Фрюховод", which Google translated as "fryukhovod", means a guy who raises and pets FreeBSD systems. Like cattleman is a man who raises and breeds cattle. It's gentle form. Same way "линуховод" (linukhovod) is a guy who raises Linux systems. Both are well-known jargon words circulating in sysadmin/programming community. :-)

So, the whole phrase your are referring to, can be translated as: "so, many FreeBSD and Linux adepts advise AMD GPU as an alternative".
