Just in case anyone on amd64 is interested, there are 9.0_BETA binary packages available here, http://www.ki.nu/pkgsrc/packages/current/NetBSD-9.0_BETA/All/

Looks like a reliable package source, though pulling packages from Japan doesn't feel ideal for someone in Europe.
Does anyone know of a "closer by" source??

Until someone starts doing officially-blessed bulk builds for 9, that'll be the best option if you don't want to build packages from source.

nia Thx! Just a clarification though, its not that I don't want to build from source, I've nothing against doing it for a few packages. But, unfortunately I don't have enough disk space to build everything I need from source.

pin I may upload pkgsrc-current packages for 9.0_STABLE/amd64 on my home ftp server any time soon, we'll see 🙂. Anyway, I've got a pkg_comp sandbox on a separate 100GB partition, works fine, and might be a good solution for you too, providing it's your /usr space only that you want to spare XD

But don't worry, I've learned to wait.
As for disk space, yes, I'd like to spare /usr but, that's not enough. My SSD is only 30Gb. I've tried to use an usb-3 but, its painfully slow 😃

Guess, I wasn't patient enough afterall 🤣
It took more than half-an-hour to pull the packages from Japan, but I'm now running 9.0_BETA 🎉

Also, back on Midori.... and, yes Midori-9.0 release has solved the problem with high cpu loads 😃
I'll also post an update on the Midori thread.

Minor issues...
After updating from 8.1_STABLE to 9.0_BETA, I'm seeing the following lines at boot:
/etc/rc: WARNING: $dhclient is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
and
/etc/rc: WARNING: $isdnd is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).

Never had these previously on 8.0_STABLE, 8.1 and 8.1_STABLE. Haven't changed my /etc/rc.config and everything is working fine, just wonder if anyone else on 9.0_BETA is seeing these?

Both dhclient and the userspace component of ISDN have been removed from base across the transition to 9.x (dhclient had been deprecated in favour of dhcpcd since 6.x), so it's safe to directly remove both /etc/rc.d/dhpcd and /etc/rc.d/isdnd (leftovers an etcupdate?), this will sort the 'issue' out.

Soon 3 days on 9.0_BETA and I'm loving it 🙂
Everything I need/use is working fine and it feels great to be back on Midori as well.
Feels like a solid release.

Back to 8.1_STABLE... Updated my 9.0_BETA to a broken package-build 🙁

Time to watch some tv 😁

pin you might be interested in knowing that the largest majority of 8.0_2019Q2 works well on 9.0_BETA; it's very rare for a shared object version to be missing, and at this point, pkgin would warn you beforehand (or the program would crash at runtime 😛) and you could compile it locally to sort the issue out in no time 😉

The number of builds in the last few days shows these people devotion to the project and trying to fix the broken packages.

NetBSD-9.0_RC1 is now available 🙂
