oui Got to play with some new hardware and the sound is still fairly low despite setting the volume to max in mixerctl. Is there anyway to force louder sound output than 255?

rvp oui Another Realtek: ALC662. More details to narrow down the model-specific quirks: vendor, product?
oui rvp It's a NEC Mate MRM27L-1. Noticed that the volume doesn't increase above the value of 174 in mixerctl, so 174 and 255 sounds the same.
rvp oui It's a NEC Mate MRM27L-1 No, I meant the sound card. Vendors often take the basic HW from manifacturers like Realtek, then make changes which then need quirks of their own. Can you do mixerctl -av? And, an alsa-infoon Linux?
rvp nia already know it's a Realtek ALC662? Because that moniker can cover a multitude of sins😁--one of which is not always enabling the external amplifier (EAPD) bits for the speaker.
nia rvp Those specific quirks are likely firmware-specific, so dependent on how NEC's UEFI/BIOS configures the ALC662.
