Hello you wonderful people!
I recently purchased a thinkpad t480 for use with OpenBSD and artix linux, and I was thinking of using NetBSD on it instead, does anyone here have this machine and use NetBSD on it, and if so, what kind of problems can I expect?
Not sure about this exact model, but I hear Thinkpads have very good NetBSD support and many developers use them. As long as the hardware isn't too reent, the experience should be great.
riastradh@ has one. Should work very well with current/stable with the recent suspend fixes. Unclear to me if the GPU is Kaby Lake or newer.
Boot it and find out, I guess - the easiest answer to any hardware question.
I have a T580 running FreeBSD 13. I needed drm-fbsd13-kmod and gpu-firmware-kmod to support its GPU, so I would expect the T480 to be the same. The two ports support the FreeBSD equivalent of Linux 5.4.62 DRM. I have the impression that NetBSD is up to 4.x, but I have not checked recently.
hsw NetBSD doesn't require you to install drivers.
