Jingsboom The biggest expense by far NetBSD incurs every year is something vaguely referred to as 'consulting' or 'consulting fees' in the annual financial reports. Anyone know who is being consulted and for what?
nia Some developers are paid by the NetBSD Foundation for thankless difficult and essential tasks like release engineering, their salary likely comes under consulting fees in the financial reports.
nia Jingsboom I'm not sure what you mean by mitigated. These projects likely come under "consulting" but they're about paying existing developers so they can devote more of their time to improving NetBSD (like the examples in the donation section of https://netbsd.org). The first project would be difficult to replace with work by a group of community members in their free time since it's more about taking responsibility for things than hacking on the OS. https://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/boosting_the_netbsd_release_handling https://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/wifi_renewal_restarted
