If you haven't set-up pkgin open your ufetch file and replace line 12, that reads
packages="$(pkgin list | wc -l | sed -e 's/[ \t]*//')"

with
packages="$(cat /usr/pkg/bin | wc -l | sed -e 's/[ \t]*//')"

Now you should have more than 'zero' packages installed ?

pkgin is a wrapper around the less-user friendly pkgtools/pkg_install set of utils, which are included in base and marked as non removable (like everything else located inside /usr/sbin); pkg_info(1) is already enough to get package count, and would work on any NetBSD system.

I suggest submitting a PR (I don't have a github account) to replace the current pkgin command with:

packages="$(pkg_info | wc -l | tr -d ' ')"

Alright! I knew it was possible with pkg_info, but to be honest I didn't really bother to figure out exactly how. Originally, I did this to use on my own system, and as I use pkgin, that was the closest solution.
I'm considering a PR to WIP. If I go ahead with it, I will submit an issue to upstream ufetch first. I do have a github account, but ufetch is hosted on gitlab.

Ok guys, just filed an issue to upstream ufetch requesting the change from 'pkgin list' to 'pkg_info' ?

JuvenalUrbino Switch being FreeBSD isn't a confirmed fact yet. It is likely that it uses the zlib bits only, and not actually running the FreeBSD kernel. Technically, we can't yet call it a FreeBSD fork.
