GhostBSD is based on FreeBSD and just adds a graphical environment out of the box. I, as a novice, just right for a start

pin yes this is 'my' old hp laptop (hp probook 4320s) it's pretty small, about 10 inches. That's what I like about it. All drivers even for wifi are working

nia how is the state of iwn0 in HEAD?

I installed HEAD a few months ago but changed back to STABLE because wifi kept connecting and disconnecting.

EDIT: 9.99.69 at the time.

pin Don't think there's any important changes to wifi drivers in HEAD due to the wifi stack rework happening on another branch. We installed -current on a friend's Ivy Bridge X1 Carbon recently which had an iwn and all the hardware was fine. iwm meanwhile is questionable regardless of version and is the wifi driver my laptop uses (;. Dunno about the progress on the wifi rework branch but porting iwn was a priority and it seems they made a bit of progress.

It took me a good chunk of my summer and some weekends 😃. Had to learn lots of stuff, starting with pkgsrc.

Now I only wish I could run NetBSD+GNOME somewhere... Still no 3D acceleration on Pinebook Pro, and on my KVM workstation nouveau crashes the kernel on GPU passthrough.

Excellent work! This gets me one step closer to installing NetBSD on my shared laptop! My wife knows how to use gnome. The only thing missing from NetBSD now (that is still a deal breaker for me) is better support for synaptic trackpads eg, 2 finger scrolling and soft touch to click etc. When we get this I will be ditching linux for good.
