nortonham when pushing the CPUs hard, the SOC overheats and the system reboots. I must have never pushed the older one I use very far, because for some reason I expected this was just normal. Just the other day I was building a bunch of pkgsrc packages simultaneously on the 2020 model and realised that it just doesn't have this problem.
The PBP WiFi (Broadcom) does not work with NetBSD 9. It sort of works, but will cause reboots at random. So I use a urtwn device.
My wife's PBP runs the stock Manjaru, which seems to be what most people use. Though frankly there are Debian, Gentoo, and arch users, and a whole gamut of other linuces that seem to work.
There's nothing peculiar about NetBSD on the PBP, but the PBP is very peculiar and hard to bootstrap. Mostly due to things that the stock Manjaru does to the machine, which it just shouldn't do. Most PBPs are initially set up to only allow booting Manjaru, so removing it can "soft brick" the PBP if you're not very careful. And whilst it's so configured, NetBSD will simply not boot.
My use cases are: network and systems diagnostics and remote usage, using VNC, X forwarding, telnet, SSH, ftp, etc; sometimes online banking and videos on Odysee, and occasional video editing (ffmpeg). At times (such as now) a lot of pkgsrc building. Also I spend a lot of time doing software development for old systems in emulation.
