I have installed Wine9 and made the changes to sysctl as noted in the package install notes. I am albe to launt winecfg, which installed Wine Mono, but the command "wine" is not found. I have searched /usr/bin and /usr/sbin and other locations but am unable to find the wine program. I tried using locate as well as whereis but still don't know what command to use in order to launch wine.

So I take it the 64-bit version is not finished? I noticed the directory ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64 is not populated. However the directory system32 is populated. I did notice that the 32bit and 64bit versions only work on the host arch. Am I correct in this assumption?

I downloaded winetricks and built from source after creating a symbolic link to wine from wine64, good or bad idea I am not sure. winetricks needed kdialog as well. But all programs fail to install.

Perhaps I am doing something incorrectly?

Yes, that makes sense and I did read that information. However the package that was installed is the 64bit version and I am unable to install 64bit programs. It gives an error complaing about missing ntdll.dll in the location that is not populated with any .dll files. This is why I was suspecting that the 64bit version is not in working order or the package is possibly missing the 64bit dependent files.

lmms native binary packages already exist for amd64 and i386. Why do you need to run it under Windows?

Can you recompile wine by changing this line to:

CONFIGURE_ARGS+=	--enable-archs=i386,x86_64

You'll need to fix up the plist entries too, I think. (See the Guide and ask on pkgsrc-users@ too.)

So, the top portion there, I typed "wine" but that's a symbolic link to "wine64" and I was trying to send the output to a file. So, the top line can be disregarded.

I recommend wine5 over wine9.

rvp I was only using lmms as a demonstration of the output from a 64bit windows binary executable. I don't know that compiling on the machine is a good idea. It's a baytrail system with 2GB of ram. Compiling winetricks is one thing but compiling wine could take days.

Ok, I have changed my testing machine over to a Yoga 11e with 4GB of ram. I don't really know what the CPU is though. This should be a bit easier of a test system to work with. I'll give those instructions for Wine5 a try now. 😃

Change of plans, I tried the shared info on wine install but thought I would be smart and use the i386 with Version 10 and wine9. Which was a bad idea. It just has an ntdll error. But I will try again with better hardware. I cannot recommend the Yoga 11e with the Celeron N3150...it's really really really slow. It also requires the "userconf disable i915drmkms* before boot. Which isn't that bad, it's just annoying on the first boot. I've just realized that I made some changes to sysctl and never actually enabled them, I just wrote them to /etc/sysctl.conf Anyway, I'll try again later but I've got to find some good hardware to use for testing setting up wine. I'm going to try a sandbox for both 5 and 9 i386 wine. I've got a pretty solid i7-3770 with RX 6400 system I'm about to build in a case designed after the HP85. So, I'll just make that my NetBSD machine. :/ EDIT: I meant 😃 <-- big smile haha I messed up on my test for setting up wine. I'll get it right next time.

Alright I'm back on the Acer tablet. Going to follow the wine5 guide again, properly this time. Will report back in here with great success I'm sure. Though I don't have accel on this machine. Hopefully it works ok.

I finally got the computer put together but it doesn't want to boot NetBSD. I guess I'll have to use another machine. :/ I guess I'll wait to post till I've got wine5 going.
