linker doesn't finde Library but its there!

Hi all,
I'm trying to compile Software (389 Server).
I spent a lot of hours on several days (nothing special - i know) and I (think) that i fixed/handled a lot of errors so far. But now i feel, that I'm stuck.

ld tells me it doesn't find libjson-c. But:

I installed it with pkgin.
I find it
I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the Path.

But ld stubbornly says that it cant find it. Any suggestions?

I looked on the filesystem level:

In earlier errors symlinks worked.
I made a try with a direct link to libjson-c.so.5.3.0 with the same result. So I switched back to the original pkgin-setup.

If i'm just blind, sorry in advandce!

LevArris As @nettester said, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is used by the run-time linker to find shared libraries not in the standard system paths.

To link with a shared library at compile-time, arrange to add -L/usr/pkg/lib -Wl,-rpath=/usr/pkg/lib -ljson-c into the build machinery.

The -Wl,-rpath= bit is to bake /usr/pkg/lib into the binary itself, so that you don't need to supply a /usr/pkg/lib in LD_LIBRARY_PATH=, or add that in /etc/ld.so.conf

I might be wrong but i don't think LD_LIBRARY_PATH plays a role during actual linking but only in regards to locating shared libraries at run time. I'd try passing LDFLAGS=-L/usr/pkg/lib to the configure/build scripts of the project you are building.
