rvp The other device does work. However, I attempted to upgrade on the basis of the current, posted advice. Is that an issue? That is a perfectly legitimate strategy on other operating systems. Not least , it is important for any other NetBSD user that follows the same posted advice as myself, and can’t get their sound card to work…

rvp I will pause my responses to this topic for the rest of the week. I need to think about moving forward with my NetBSD strategy, with this computer. The reason being that I have just discovered that the fragmentation, pixelation, discoloration (pages are red most of the time) and blanking out completely, are related to the recommended Radeon HD 5450 graphics card, and not to the version of Firefox Nightly that was shipped with NetBSD 10 amd64… I am experiencing some of the same problems in Midori. The Radeon card was a replacement for an Nvidia graphics card…

rvp This does appear to solve the problem with Firefox and one could hope Midori as well, as I need both. Unfortunately there is a down side, which is that I experienced some slow down in Tomplay. Usually between a half to a whole beat, which is not good, as my strategy has been to start out using this specific computer along with the computer with the USB sound card issue, for music practice (including a Java based program Impro-Visor, if I can get it to run on NetBSD), transposition (musescore) and later some basic DAW stuff like lmms…

Yes, that is rather a large hammer. Try some smaller ones: here and here.
You could also experiment with the settings in about:config (try gfx.* and webgl.*).

rvp So far, I have tried the last suggestion. With both set in Firefox, there was no progress bar. Interestingly, with only webgl.* implemented, the progress bar came back. However, there are discrepancies between the metronome beat, the music played is not in time with the notation and the vocals are off in relation to the metronome and the music. A real cacophony. What is particularly interesting, is that this is the same result that I get on another computer with a fresh NetBSD install, where the nouveau driver is disabled. Not sure if this gives any clues...

It is also important to note that any changes to Firefox will of course not help me when using Midori. I mainly use Midori for the national security verification mandated by the EU, but don't use it for Tomplay...

rvp OK, It turns out that Tomplay requires WebGL, but as long as I disable "Use hardware acceleration when available" in Firefox, it appears to behave pretty well as a point of reference. It will need more testing, but is a better point of reference than before.

I still need to try this on what I still hope to be a NetBSD dedicated computer, however there is as a point of reference no way to disable the default sound, as it is on the motherboard, but also the only sound working on that computer at this point...

The BIOS usually has a toggle for this. Check again.

The last version of Firefox where WebGL worked on NetBSD is firefox102 extended support release. This is still in pkgsrc, also because it has an extra security feature which also broke in newer releases. I'm still using it and very happy with it, all sites work.
