I've been using Linux for 25 years and my interest in the BSD family sparked over a year ago. Until now, I concentrated my efforts on FreeBSD for 2 main reasons: its packages are well updated and it has ZFS.
I've tried to use it both as a server and desktop OS and, as it was lacking some drivers, I've had the occasion to create a port - and to realize it was not as time-consuming as I imagined. 🙂
However, as great a server OS as FreeBSD can be, it is fairly perfectible as a desktop OS. Because NetBSD seems more advanced in this area, I'd like to give it a serious try, contributing packages if need be.
I've inventoried the missing or no longer maintained NetBSD packages I need and there are not so many (mainly: Eclipse, Calibre, Samba, Brother Laser Printer CUPS drivers).
The only thing I need for now is the equivalent of FreeBSD's Porter Handbook for NetBSD. Is there any such documentation, even in a rudimentary form?
