Hello everyone, do you people know how I can move the following directories in my home ? .mozilla/ ; i guess firefox stuff, is there any environment variable that can be set to change this? .dbus/ ; i guess dbus stuff, how can i move it in .local/share/dbus/ .rnd ; this is a file that gets generated every boot i guess, i don't know what is generating it and how do i change its location .vimrc ; is there a way to put this in .config/vim/vimrc .Xauthority ; i tried setting the XAUTHORITY environment variable but it didn't work, do you guys know how to specify another directory for this file and the .serverauth.3521 et similia files? Help would be appreciated

The OpenSSL library generates this file as a random-data store.

netbsdnoob I sadly don't have a solution but i feel your pain. Dumping files directly to $HOME should be outlawed... To bad a lot of times it isn't really possible to change this behavior. The only general approach i know of would be feeding the application a tuned HOME variable (like running vim with HOME="$HOME/.config/vim" vim ...) but as soon as this path gets used for anything beyond placing/reading configuration files you'll run into trouble. Also the applications likely expect $HOME to exist so running vim would probably look more like mkdir -p "$HOME/.config/vim && HOME="$HOME/.config/vim vim .... I am not exactly sure if it would be possible to stuff that into an alias. I only use it as a last resort option for scripting.

rvp ok perfect, the only things are, even if i remove the dbus directory it gets recreated every time.
