unicorn I have about 50G of data that I want to save. How to backup? How to backup by USB stick?
Well, format and mount the USB-stick, then you can use tar
(and also zip
, rar
etc. if the directories you want to backup only contains regular files--ie. no device files, or sockets, etc.)
To just store files without compression:
cd /
tar -cvf /mnt/bkp.tar home/user
cd /
zip -0r /mnt/bkp.zip home/user/bin home/user/doc
cd /
rar a -m0 /mnt/bkp.rar home/user/bin usr/local
