So it seems to me that, FreeBSD is the flash extrovert of the BSD family, OpenBSD is the family member that always thinks someone is out to get them, while NetBSD is the middle child - often ignored, as they just quietly do their thing, without much help or intervention from anyone.
On the music production front, FreeBSD has Alsa, Jack, PulseAudio - all Linux imports that originally attempted to address Linux audio deficiencies. OpenBSD has a very KISS system, but also a system that only functions with a very limited amount of software, such as Fluidsynth, Qsynth, LMMS, MilkyTracker, some plugins and class compliant USB MIDI support.
