amdgpu ati radeon NetBSD-current

I deleted my last post because (like I often do) I posted a queation without doing any research myself.

I've got a new-to-me ATI Radeon RX 570 card for my desktop pc. I've installed xf86-video-amdgpu and haven't yet done any kind of configuration. I'm on a fresh install, no xorg yet.

With the last Nvidia card the nouveau driver would load during boot and the resolution would adjust to native settings prior to login. After installing the new card with the xf86-video-amdgpu package, it does not seem to load any graphics drivers.

Do I need to do some configuration? Or do I need to install ati(4) or radeon(4) ? I'll try these when I get a chance.

I note that @nia mentioned in Dec 2020 that amdgpu was not ready for use. I would have hoped that since then it would be functional.

pfr try -current as this will most likely have latest drivers

AFAIK, NetBSD 9.x supports only DRM linux 4.4 era cards.
For anything newer than that, you will have to wait for 10.0 to be released (unfortunately this one takes eons, kind of reminds me version 7.0).

Since 10 is not branched yet, maybe you should try current, at least to have an idea if your graphics card is supported or not.

So I've switched repositories and updated from /pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/amd64/9.0_current/All and installed xf86-video-ati but still no doesn't appear to be working.

The RX 570 isn't a new card my any means. Its nearly 6 years old. Fingers crossed it's supported in NetBSD 10

This is not correct, HEAD is 9.99.105 and not 9.0_current.

looks like 9.99.106 now. But got it, will jump on the bleeding edge and hope for the best.

Hypothetically though, if my GPU is't yet supported, how can I help to get it supported?

If you want to use packages you will have to install compat90 first.

So I finally got around to installing a window manager and running an X11 session. I kind of, maybe, think that it's working?

It doesn't look too out of whack at least, and it's hard for me to tell while using a stupid old TV for a monitor.

Please, what commands do I need to issue to find out? I ooked at the output of dmesg butcouldn't see anything specifically with amd or ati or radeon or even aorus

I hope to purchace a 1440p monitor so that'd be a bit easier to tell by just looking at it.

You should know the drill by now. Post /var/run/dmesg.boot and /var/log/Xorg.0.log

To get the current X resolution: xdpyinfo | fgrep dimension

rvp I'd guess it would be enough with dmesg | grep wsdisplay and dmesg | grep i915drmkms but, if you want to dig through dmesgthat's fine.

Well I checked these replies to late and now I'm banished from the room in which my PC lives (for the night at least).

I did manage to take a screenshot with neofetch showing GPU output llvmpipe ... Dunno what that means or if that helps any?

AFAIK, llvmpipe means no hardware acceleration. See here:

Mosfet So essentially the GPU drivers not loaded. I guess I kind expected my screen resolution to be out or for it to look terrible.
