MOTIF package for DragonFlyBSD ?

Hi Unix fellers,
is there a MOTIF Library package (libmotif) available to download and install through the
DragonFlyBSD package manager ?
We speak about the 64bit OS.
I have not BSD installed.
Just want to ask you a favor.
Could you , if you are running a 64bit Dragonfly , checkout if the MOTIF package (libmotiv)
is there for installing with your packagemanager ?

senenmut you know you can actually check this yourself on-line? All BSDs repos are available as a list of tarballs on your web-browser.
Check one of DragonFly's mirrors. Here is the one in Danmarkj

hi,
no. its not possible because there are too much packages. names changed too quickly.
for example if you ENTER the name "motif" in the synaptic package manager of debian linux you get the catch "libmotiv"
a manual search is impossible.
so i posted here to ask the favor for a feller who is runnin 64bit dragonfly to ENTER it in that package manager to see the results.

It looks rather doable to me...

Anyway, maybe a DFBSD user comes around...

EDIT: I've looked for open-motif as well and doesn't appear to be available. You could always request the package at DFBSD....
It's available on NetBSD though.

i wonder that dragonfly is not display that package.
even if they can install official freebsd packages , is that true or have they a different server ?

senenmut I don't think you can. Why don't you ask for the package in their mailing lists

i got a reply from dragonfly mailing list.
of course they have the newest version of the motif library.

I've always been curious about DFBSD, but... I just love NetBSD.
Let me know your thoughts in a few weeks, if you decide to go for it 🙂

Hi, you mean DRAGONFLYBSD 64bit. that is what i take. on DESKTOP PC. they have minimum GUI Shell.
netbsd is also good but styled for server installation. they have only command line in standard package.

What do you mean with "server installation" and "only command line"? Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? 😉

hi again,
i want to buy a new 64bit computer. Its a christmas present to myself. he he
therefore i searched the right UNIX OS. BSD is UNIX.
Net-BSD , yes it's supposed to be a server installation with very minimum of installed packages.
Therefore , after the installment of NETBSD , only a command line is seen with "text commandos".
No computer mouse.
If you wish something to move with the mouse you have to install a desktop environment.
Perhaps KDE , with the package manager , with text commandos from command line.
Then you see a "normal" screen with mouse action.
That's it.
So that's the reason for me to take Dragonfly but not only.
It's just a decision. If there are Problems i take "freeBSD 64bit".
And here i make it such like NetBSD from command line.

But i assume that the Dragonfly make the job good. he he

one more , on Thursday the computer is delivered.
with preinstalled Windows 10 64 bit.
the most thing i definetly enjoy is to kill windows and overinstall
DRAGONFLY UNIX OS. real unix - NOT GNU.

i have installed it. However , my monitor does not support 64bit mode currently.
wanna change next month.
then i installed NETBSD32bit. to cumbersome.
then i installed FreeBSD32bit. that works.
seems i have to prepare a new monitor and/or graphical card for the dragonfly.
no problem. but not all at the same time.

Is it surely just an unsupported driver?

I have very little experience with DBSD other than I could not get it to install on a laptop about 6 months ago. Laptop was an old Dell 4 GB RAM, 60GB Disk. It crashed, so I gave up and put FreeBSD on it.

So, I am not sure how stuck you are on DBSD, but if you want a GUI setup BSD based OS, then GhostBSD is pretty good.

Give it a go, before you settle on DBSD - because GhostBSD is directly using FreeBSD's OS which comes with all the relevant drivers.

What's the graphics in the laptop? AMD? Intel? Nvidia?

i stay on freebsd32 version. It's better for now.
It works.
If Ghost has a LIVE CD for testing without installing FIRST , then i could try.
Have here Intel Graphics Card inside the tower.

No matter. I just have cloned the whole bsd system to an image on a external harddrive.
So i stay relaxed and only want to program little applications with it.

It does indeed. They are 64 bit though. (But all modern OS are and all UEFI/BIOS support 64 bit these days as well)

hi again,
i spoke to a freebsd unix freak and he said its no problem to "recompile the same code "
on a 64 bit BSD machine IF someone wants only 64 bit.
So i do the same work on this machine.

making a image of the freebsd system isn't so easy.
even "Redo and Clonecilla" has crashed with the ext4 partition what they say they can handle.
this freebsd32bit partition they can't display nor make a complete disc copy.

so i am glad that all works here. backup ready
starting programming.
