Most sdf members will have received this email as well, but for all non-members, sdf.org is now providing 50 terabyte RAID cluster Running NetBSD 9.3. Cool!
The latest incarnation of SDF is now in the works and available for your
use right now. Please 'ssh vinland.sdf.org' to connect to the first
client of the new cluster NetBSD 9.3 platform.
The new platform offers
- twice the RAID size, from 24 terabytes to 50 terabytes
- more fileserver memory, cores and faster i/o
- NetBSD 9.3
When you login to vinland.sdf.org please read the /etc/motd carefully. The
RAID is a snapshot of current production available on tty.sdf.org and will
not be in sync with production until just before cutover* (to be announced).
Any changes you make to files on vinland.sdf.org will not be reflected in
production.
What we need:
- users using the system in a normal way
- running programs and utilities you expect to use
If you find any programs are missing or not working properly, please post
on the 'bboard' in <REQUESTS> from vinland.sdf.org to get updates.
With the 50 terabyte raid we uncovered a kernel bug in NetBSD 9.3 which has
now fixed by chuq and the more folks testing the better.
The old server is nearly 8 years old and once migration is complete and full
backups are made of the new server the old hardware will be completely zeroed
out and recycled. The current production clients (tty.sdf.org) and all other
NetBSD hosts that make up the cluster will also be upgraded to NetBSD 9.3
and will continue to provide service.
