Kernel compile question

I compiled the base system with no trouble.

Now after configuring a custom kernel, I'm receiving a bunch of "is orphaned (nothing matching found)" type messages. I've double checked and everything looks to be correct. The guide doesn't mention the need to edit other configuration files such as /usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/conf/ALL or /usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/conf/std.amd64 . My question is is there ever a reason to edit one of these other config files or is it more likely I've configured something incorrectly in my custom kernel file? Thank you for your help!

kly What's the exact error you're seeing, and what's the exact command-line you're using to compile the kernel?

Hello!

I can't remember the exact error messages but we did get it working last week at work.

Uncommenting the "pci* at mainbus? bus?" line seems to have fixed it although according to the message buffer there are no pci devices on the system (this is running in a hyper-v vm)
Even though the USB drivers were commented out, also needed to comment out the "include /dev/usb/usbdevices.config" line
