I stumbled accross this video describing how to disable the generation of coredump files on OpenBSD. The solution provided is to add ulimit -Sc 0 if(window.hljsLoader && !document.currentScript.parentNode.hasAttribute('data-s9e-livepreview-onupdate')) { window.hljsLoader.highlightBlocks(document.currentScript.parentNode); } to your .xsession file. I was wondering, does this same method work on NetBSD, and if I'm not using an .xsession file can I add this to my .xinitrc instead?

pfr I think it can be done using
sysctl but i would recommend set it to /tmp just in case if it is needed

sysctl -w kern.defcorename=/tmp/%n.core

pfr ulimit should work on most Unixes, but, Jay 's solution is the best: a) you get a core dump and b) /tmp is cleared on every boot.

setting this location in /etc/sysctl.conf was the solution.

Why would someone want to disable core-dumps in the first place?
I know a lot of Linux distros do it by default but, err... thanks but, no thanks! If something goes wrong there is no data to debug and actually being able to figure out what went wrong.

Anyway, check man savecore.

If you really want to do this add savecore=NO to /etc/rc.conf
