rvp First things first: can you run either memtest86 or memtest86+ for a day or so on that laptop?
This laptop has no memtest
built into firmware.
Found memtester
in packages, tried it in single user, thought it would access more memory:
boot> boot -s
, top
showed Memory: 2348K/28M act/tot Free: 946M
, /usr/local/bin/memtester 1G 1
:
memtester version 4.5.1 (32-bit)
...
want 1024MB (1073741824 bytes)
got 63MB (66904064 bytes)
But it only got 63MB (66904064 bytes)... Hm.
In normal boot mode, it gets 321MB:
memtester version 4.5.1 (32-bit)
...
want 1024MB (1073741824 bytes)
got 1023MB (1073549312 bytes), trying mlock ...over system/pre-process limit, reducing...
...
got 321MB (337018880 bytes), trying mlock ...over system/pre-process limit, reducing...
got 321MB (337014784 bytes), trying mlock ...locked.
All tests OK over 3 loops. Not very extensive, but the memory coverage is low in the first place, why bother?..
With 2 instances of memtester
simultaneously, the first one gets all 321MB, the second gets 0 bytes.
