joany In BSD, base system and third party software are different so you have to remember two ways to update your system. In most of Linux distro everything are packages and you only need one way to update them. Not sure which you prefer but I like BSD approach.

joany I use this procedure about once a month to upgrade my NetBSD 9.2_STABLE. It takes less than 20 mins. to upgrade the system this way. Note that this procedure doesn't update any files outside of the NetBSD installation, like the bootblocks (MBR) or the NetBSD *.efi bootloader files (UEFI). But, these change very rarely, so it's fine for the most part. Also talk about updating base system. How can I update X11 and all base system by compiling it through build.sh ? I can build kernel and base by myself but I can't figure out how to build X11.

I use sysupgrade because I'm lazy and it seems to always work pretty smoothly on my machine. I'm curious about updating to NetBSD 10 and what this might look like. This might be another thread though. Also, dont be afraid to ask questions. There is an abundance of knowledge and expertise on this forum and you would be wise to tap in.

JuvenalUrbino Ah yes, makes sense. I suppose I could run into that issue when there is major release. I don't have any plans to run -current since I'm running Net on my main personal computer and don't want too many bugs.

I tried sysupgrade my RPI2, but it failed:

sysupgrade: E: Failed to fetch https://nycdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-9/latest/evbarm-earmv7hf/binary/sets/base.tar.xz

That seems to be because it's looking for base.tar.xz, whereas the file is base.tgz on the server.
