I feel like the biggest advantage is that it doesn’t require things like DBUS, polkit and hald to function correctly. For example to add shutdown to XFCE4 you have to setup a polkit policy and attach that policy to a group.
The other big advantage is that you start with an almost blank slate, meaning you don’t start off with a ton of applications installed. This really helps minimize the footprint of the window manager.
