About 6 months ago I requested the packaging of Midori web browser att pkgsrc-wip. The team quickly responded to the request and version 7 became available on 2018Q4 release of pkgsrc and I've been using it since then ?
Currently at version 8, the browser requires some extra packages in order to function as my primary/only web resource.
If anyone else is interested, here are the extra required packages...
In order to launch the browser without it complaining about missing libstdc++.so.7 and refusing to start, install the gcc6-libs package.
Now it will function for everyday use, but you won't be able to stream any videos. For this, you'll need to install gst-plugins1-oss, that pulls gst-plugins1-good. You'll also need gst-plugins1-bad, gst-plugins1-libav, gst-plugins1-ugly and gst-plugins1-x264.
Sound and video will now work, although not on Youtube, but I don't really care about it ?
Thanks to leot, bsiegert, Greg Troxel, Martin Husemann and all others that had suggestions, for their input, interest and effort to make this possible.
Finally, cpu load spikes will be fixed in the coming Midori upstream release, thanks to the input from the main dev, kalikiana and this commit
Enjoy freedom of choice.
