Audio recording broken in Firefox on NetBSD?

My mic used to work fine but after updating Firefox, my mic now only outputs incomprehensible noise. Same with different microphones and same on both desktop and laptop. Also tested to completely reinstall NetBSD but problem still persists.. Audio recording on NetBSD itself works fine using audiorecod, problem only seems to affect when trying to record through Firefox. I have made sure to allow the correct audio input when prompted for permission for Firefox to use the mic.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Something is clearly wrong / mozilla broke something. Please send-pr the problem early next time so I can catch it before we're about to cut a stable release of pkgsrc. There's barely any time left.

What was the last release of Firefox that worked for you? I'm trying to determine when the problem was introduced.

nia I'm sorry I don't remember the exact version, I think I was using a version between 80-86 before updating to 91 where I discovered my mic wasn't working.

Basically spent all day debugging this and no closer to catching the origin of where Mozilla introruced the regression. Months of my effort making microphones work nicely in firefox have gone down the toilet, use firefox78 as it's the last version that will work, I've reimported it to pkgsrc.

I have the same problem on FreeBSD with both Firefox ESR 91.12.0 and Firefox 103.0.2, you too?

Sorry: while definitely broken in 91.12.0 ESR, it indeed works for me too in 103.0.2 on FreeBSD. I probably forgot to set hw.snd.latency_profile=1 before testing with latest Firefox yesterday; I usually use the lowest latency setting possible although it breaks recording, because I much more often play with software synthesisers than I use my microphone!

I once chose the ESR version of Firefox for my laptop (which I don't use on a daily basis), thinking it would be less prone to issues than the fast changing regular release. Well... not always that way, it seems.

Still interested to know if progress was made on the NetBSD issue.

Yeah, Mozilla broke stuff in Firefox 91, and it's all fixed in 102 for NetBSD. Unsure why or how.
