Hi, Today, I test NetBSD 9.2, my first attempt, into one VM with QEMU, (on Devuan Ceres). As, I'm FR, I configure during the install process to the FR language. On tty, I can log me on my account user or root, without any problem. But, It's not possible by XDM login. $ grep encoding /etc/wscons.conf encoding fr if(window.hljsLoader && !document.currentScript.parentNode.hasAttribute('data-s9e-livepreview-onupdate')) { window.hljsLoader.highlightBlocks(document.currentScript.parentNode); } I've not found any informations on the Guide to modify some things for X. Any idea, please? I known on the X session opened, I can use setxkbmap fr but the first time during the install process, when the password is setted with FR encoding, I can not login.

xinit is different from XDM, and XDM does not use its configs or scripts.

From what I gathered from the xdm(8) manual, you want to add setxkbmap fr to /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 which is a script ran on XDM start. Unfortunately I can't test this myself as my VM install of NetBSD doesn't want to start X for some reason.

The only functional was to modify the/etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 to add the setxkbmap command.

After restart xdm, I can type my id/password segun the layout FR!
