Starting Kernel Development and Device Drivers Development

Hello all, where does one start to understand the low level inner workings of NetBSD and being able to
start to write device drivers or experimenting with the rump kernel for example?

My background is in computer science and I know C decently, but still I feel like I am lacking quite a lot of knowledge to be able to write drivers and do low level stuff.

Can somebody help me? I would like to contribute.

I'd be interested in working on implementing ext4 support, but this entry is 6+ year old, which I find surprising.

Jay Indeed this is what I was looking at, but at the same time, I don't think it will go down at the kernel-level, I mean they still use system calls and are one step above afaik
