@"pin"#p7245 I still prefer `ufetch`, but I like the status bars in `macchina`. I just wish they had status bars for cpu usage and even network usage.

You can see on the neofetch screen on the shot it's using LLVMpipe renderer as fallback. That said, there is a a GPU-accelerated media player, called omxplayer (already packaged for pkgsrc [multiomedia/omxplayer](/multimedia/omxplayer)), specifically designed for Raspberry Pi, which speaks directly to the hardware video decoder of the embedded Broadcom Videocore GPU and can be launched from wscons.

Nothing special, I prefer fvwm or cwm since they come with with the OpenBSD base or core system i.e. not ports.

My OpenBSD desktop, running cwm. xsetroot -solid black, xclock, xload, and xconsole make the environment a little more friendly (or, they would, if I knew how to pick decent colors and fonts).

The featured application is xterm, running neofetch, the venerable ed, and the ever useful dict dictionary querier. As shown, I used xpaint for the screenshot 🙂

Solaris CDE was kinda different. I mean, CDE on UNIX/VMS means having a whole lot of consistently packed up Motif utilities and resources, as well as a desktop environment which is perfectly integrated with the features and the technologies of the system which it's running upon. CDE on Linux/BSD/Illumos today is basically a retro Motif interface with limited functionality and few but useful embedded apps.

There are, however, a number of Motif-based apps on pkgsrc which play very nicely (from a UI standpoint) with CDE, MWM and FVWM. Have a look at the 'Required By' section here:

I used CDE on both VMS and Ultrix and don't really recall any other applications that were different from standard-issue CDE. I assume you are talking about particular system utilities primarily?

Yeah, Solaris in particular. There's a lot you can do from the graphical interface using admin utilities and additional third-party applications used to be provided via sunfreeware or CDs. Also, the Sgi CDE version had some particular tweaks, like the graphical pager, and played well with the overwhelming amount of Motif software shipped with and/or designed for IRIX.

Below a picture of CDE on NetBSD 10.0 with Neptune theme and various windows and panels from time/xdiary, which I imported in pkgsrc a while ago.
