Printer Epson M200 on NetBSD dont print last lines on A4

Network Printer/scanner Epson M200 (monochrome). NetBSD driver/wip epson-inkjet-printer-escpr (version 1.7.7nb1 from 2020-12-04, maintainer bsiegert). Bsiegert dont answer to my emails.

Epson M200 on NetBSD doen not print last 5 lines on A4, but on FreeBSD and OpenBSD all OK -> printer OK, all lines was successfully printed on FreeBSD and OpenBSD.

driver epson-inkjet-printer-escpr was successfully compiled on NetBSD 9.1_STABLE and typo pkg/pkg in /usr/pkg/pkg/libexec/cups/filter/ to /usr/pkg/libexec/cups/filter/ was fixed (files are copied). Also the package cups-filters was installed (without cups-filters printer dont print).

cupsd and cups-browsed was added to /etc/rc.conf and after reboot network printer was configured:
lpd://192.168.0.120:515/PASSTHRU/EPSON 200 Series

Is it possible to fix the problem, that printer can print last 5 lines on A4?

The A4 type was set in printer settings and Libre Office, this is not American Letter type. In American Letter standart also last lines dont print.

Could you fix pkg/pkg typo error in driver build and add the cups-filter on dependencies? And how to fix last lines print?

dpostolov Don't use cups, but, this looks interesting; let's give this a try.

Have you tried configuring the printer manually using lpadmin and lpoptions? Eg.:

$ lpadmin -p PRNAME -v DEV_URI -P /SOME/PATH/Epson-M200_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd -E
$ lpoptions -p PRNAME -o ink=MONO -o media=A4 -o quality=PLAIN_NORMAL

And then look at the printer logs when printing?

echo a4 > /etc/papersize
echo a4 > /usr/pkg/etc/papersize

See if it works. And, what's the output of this command?

--- This is monochrome Epson M200, also exist Epson M200 Color. I think, that driver of printer is the same.

Looks like I'll have to install cups and try a bit of experimenting then.

What happens if the printer is directly connected to machine?
Look through files in ~/.cups/* or ~/.config/cups/*. Any papersize there should be set to A4.
If you print some full-width lines, are the left- and right-margins the same size? US letter size is slightly wider than A4, so on an A4 paper, the RHS margin will be narrower if papersize defaults to letter.
Can you try iso_a4 instead of a4 in the */papersize files and for the env. variable also? The papersize.5 man-page is unclear on what this should actually be.

Hmm. Maybe install the suse_lsb package? Dunno about these things.

It may be indeed an issue linked to the default papersize (possibly being set to LETTER as opposed to A4).
You can configure your printer options at http://localhost:631/, or alternatively specify the support type for the default destination on the command line (lpoptions -o media=A4) as @rvp said. See the relevant cheat sheet on opensource.apple.
In addition, you may just want to explicitly set the papersize for your user by appending:

LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"; export LC_PAPER
PAPERSIZE=A4; export PAPERSIZE

to your user's environment (e.g. ~/.profile).

dpostolov This doesn't appear to be a papersize issue because:

Both left and right margins look the same width.
Looks like the printer started printing the first few pixel-rows on that last line, then stopped. (I noticed this on the first scan too.) Almost as if it got an abort in the middle. This can't be due to an end-of-paper sensing because the A4 paper is longer than letter-size. So, some other issue.

OK, I'll install CUPS, figure out how its pieces work, and then see how to turn on debugging and stuff to see what's going on.

Many thanks to RVP developer, with epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.7.9 driver, my printer Epson M200 successfully print on NetBSD 9.1_STABLE (in wip/pkgsrc version of epson driver is 1.7.7). The bug was on old version of driver. Next our goal is the update of wip/pkgsrc or pkgsrc version epson driver.
