bsduck Let's turn UnitedBSD into UnicodeBSD. NetBSD should be renamed to SverigeBSD too. http://pkgsrc.se is another proof this OS is the national software of the Kingdom of Sweden.
qik With a Radeon GPU, my dream setup is finally possible. I can now run NetBSD with GNOME as my desktop machine. 🙂 In the shot: Epiphany, Terminal, Builder
rvp qik I can now run NetBSD with GNOME as my desktop machine. Is this one step closer to @nia's dream of total NetBSD world-domination?
pfr qik I rate this. It seems a little counter intuitive to me at first because I generally think of running NetBSD on lower-spec machines. But if you've got some modern hardware, why not? Now if we can package steam for NetBSD that'll be the icing on the cake.
qik pfr I suspect GNOME could run well on lower specs given enough investment in optimizations. Regarding steam - yeah, maybe 🙂 Would rely heavily on Linux emulation anyway. rvp Is this one step closer to @nia's dream of total NetBSD world-domination? One can only hope 😆
neubaer pfr Steam is kinda questionable when the only GPUs NetBSD supports are Intel integrated and 8 year old Radeons. It would do more good to get amdgpu working first. That's what I'm waiting for anyway... EDIT: Oh and I guess some older Nvidias with a driver that makes them as fast as the Intel iGPUs.
pfr qik I actually really like Gnome, it's very polished. I wonder though, does NetBSD support all the multi finger track-pad gesture functions? I still can't even 2-finger scroll on web pages.
qik pfr I can't connect a trackpad to test, but multi-point gestures probably don't work. I believe those are handled through libinput, which is not available on NetBSD. There's a discussion about libinput on @nia's post: http://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/wayland_on_netbsd_trials_and

There's a discussion about libinput on @nia's post: http://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/wayland_on_netbsd_trials_and Hmmm Looks like libevdev is in pkgsrc/wip would this be the solution? One of the comments in that blog post suggests so.
pin @Jay and @pfr C'mon guys, please read the Makefile of the package, it clearly states, ONLY_FOR_PLATFORM= Linux-*-* 😉 You can also find libudev and libinput itself in wip.
pfr pin C'mon guys, please read the Makefile of the package, it clearly states, ONLY_FOR_PLATFORM= Linux-- Perhaps this needs to be stated also in the description https://pkgsrc.se/wip/libevdev ? Anyhow, that answers my question at least. But the next question is, what it stopping it from being ported to NetBSD when it is already available on FreeBSD?
pin pfr Perhaps this needs to be stated also in the description https://pkgsrc.se/wip/libevdev ? Could be, perhaps that would make it obvious. pfr what it stopping it from being ported to NetBSD when it is already available on FreeBSD? I'll refrain from comments regarding this.
pfr pin I'll refrain from comments regarding this. 😅 Oh, fair enough, I'm just curious. Feel free to link articles/blogs that go into it if you don't want to spill the tea 🫖
JuvenalUrbino Should we create a general question weekly/monthly thread to prevent the screenshot thread from being burdened with minor desktop-oriented chat? Also, time for a new pinned screenshot thread? This one has over 500 post and I imagine it being hard to scroll for new users
pin JuvenalUrbino Good suggestion. @Jay I'm taking the freedom to lock this thread and initiate a new one.
