pfr The only thing that turns me off is having to recompile if making changes to the config
Yes, that's what always kept me away from, e.g. dwm
It's not that hard, though and, there're some wins and some rather neat features in frankenwm.
Disclaimer:

- I lovespectrwm's simplicity and the minimal amount of tiling layouts.
- I haven't even decided if I want to change.
But, ...here are some initial impressions:
- Cold boot (not that it really matters at this level) but, frankenwmuses 34MB of RAM,spectrwmuses 86MB.
- frankenwmis able to deal with any panel/bar. I've tried- tint2and- lxpanel, though the later had a few glitches, I don't think it was the WM's fault. EDIT: It wasn't, as both- tint2and- xfce4-panelwork fine. So far this could be one of the reasons to change.
- It supports boarder and gaps resize on-the-fly using keybindings.
- I like the dual-stack layout, though it would probably be better on a nice widescreen.
Some minor annoyances,
- I haven't figured out how to pick a cursor-theme, it uses the horrible X from x11. Maybe a plus for you?! 🙂
- I don't really need 13 tiling layouts 😉
Obviously, there's more to it than this but, I've only used it a few hours.
