A text-mode installer is a precious thing: when you install on a server, graphical installers are often unusable because dialog boxes are larger than the graphics adapter maximum resolution and you can't click the Next/OK button...
Of course, the same is also true of some GUI applications, including configuration dialogs, but at least, once your system is installed and running, your can configure a virtual display larger than the physical screen resolution to work around such issues, unlike in an installer.
That said, a graphical installer often gives a better first-time impression to newcomers, so ideally, it's good to have both and ask which one to use - like Devuan/Debian, for instance.
However, with a reliable installer, I now feel comfortable with spreading the Good News of NetBSD around me because I'll be able to show I'm using it myself on real hardware. 🙂 And with such a working system, I no longer feel overwhelmed by the amount of work to do, so I can consider contributing, for example by fixing problems affecting me or porting software I miss.
