How to mute useless error messages

I have a USB mouse connected to my PC and it fills my logs (and my console) with error messages of absolutely no interest. Every 62 seconds, it issues:

Is there any possibility to "mute" these annoying error messages?

Those messages are telling you something useful: Get a better USB mouse, or check your USB connectors. You should not be getting frequent USB connects/disconnects like that.

In case you still need it, this is the hammer I mentioned:

# sysctl -w kern.messages=0

will turn off spewing all over the console (it's still collected in the syslog, so that's ok).

Wrong, this is a common, well-known behavior of USB mice.
Trackpads / touchpads / trackpoints don't do this as they are permanently attached to the computer.
Linux and FreeBSD just don't write those messages.
I don't ask for a modification of NetBSD's drivers, though, I would be more than happy with a workaround.
I thought there could be some mechanism to control logging, as is common in Java applications, hence my question.

20-100 Wrong, this is a common, well-known behavior of USB mice.

Some mice maybe, not all of them. I have a very cheap wired USB mouse and it prints those messages only if I physically attach/detach it.

Maybe you have one of those mice which go into power-saving mode (and detach) if you don't move it for some time.

Well, I admit spending most of my time typing in terminal windows or text editors.
There are however activities for which a mouse is rather convenient.
Plus it helps saving the keyboard for important things. 😉 😃

Seriously, it's very neat, but, my workflow is very different: I use virtual desktops a lot and full-screen almost all of my programs. Each virtual desktop has a set program for a set function. Eg.:
Desktop 1 is always xterm running `top(1)--for date and status.
Desktop 2 has one or more xterms--for programming.
Desktop 3 is also programming--manpages/reference/testing--cmd history in these is not saved.
Desktops 4-7 are usually empty.
Desktop 8 is always browser.

I use evilwm BTW. It has been my sole WM for the last 10+ years.

😆 To everyone its own, right? I usually have one or two windows per workspace/virtual desktops (10 ws here).

I mainly use two windows when packaging and compiling stuff, one doing the job and one for references. Then usually I have a browser open on another to quickly check thing online.
If/when it gets crowded, I just press MOD4+Shift+number to send some windows to another workspace 😉

I'll admit I enjoy the keyboard driven work flow on my laptop, it feels/is faster. But I agree with @rvp that sometimes a mouse is nice. Especially when web browsing. That reminds me to add something to the Wishlist for NetBSD 10 thread--better support for Synaptics track pads so we can get 2 finger scrolling working!

More to the point, I'm a fan of Plan9 which is a predominantly mouse driven OS, but I'd never install it on a laptop

Heh! I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to disable the wretched things on all the OSes I use. Rotten thing kept getting in the way of my typing--making the mouse cursor jump all over the place. Like a mini invisible cat was walking on the damn thing.
