Distinguish FreeBSD derivatives

Hi,

Is it possible to somehow identify FreeBSD derivatives from the command line?

Say, identify that I'm in FuryBSD, not in FreeBSD.

May be I can read some configuration file? Where is no os-release file.

aponomarenko if they use a custom kernel, uname -Ki shall return its name and version. Otherwise, in other cases, you're factually running just a preconfigured vanilla FreeBSD. There's nothing like /etc/release which I'm aware of unfirtunately; however a custom motd, a dedicated pkg repo or a custom loader(8) may indicate it's not stock FreeBSD

According to its developers, FuryBSD was created to facilitate the installation of FreeBSD on desktops / laptops. With this in mind, I would not be surprised if it wasn't possible to distinguish between them. However, you could try: grep -rli furybsd /etc/* and also on /usr/local/etc/*.

If you don't find anything suitable in there, you will certainly find something under /usr/local/share - at least the FuryBSD logo...
