LUKS external disk - XFCE battery on laptop

Hi everyone,
I recently reinstalled NetBSD on my laptop and would like to ask a few questions, perhaps some obvious ones (sorry XD).

I have an external LUKS hard drive that I’d like to mount with NetBSD. Is that possible? (I think I already know the answer XD )

If necessary, I could consider doing a backup on Linux, but I’d like to use it on both NetBSD and Linux.
What do you think I should use for encryption so I can easily use it on both operating systems? ZFS? Something else?

Another question.
I use i3 for my user account and haven’t had any problems so far, but I installed Xfce for my partner’s user account. The problem is that none of the Xfce battery manager listed detect the actual charge level. Do any of you use Xfce as a desktop environment? How did you solve this?

What do you think I should use for encryption

I use tar(1) and pipe into ccrypt, which is not in pkgsrc. ccrypt is very easy to compile. But people have said openssl(1) would be a better option instead. Plus openssl comes with NetBSD and just about all Linux distros. FWIW, I been meaning to look at openssl, but 🙂

I do not and I do nit I use xfce. But in pkgsrc there is xbattbar that is rather nice.

jmcunx 😢 I was hoping to find a way to encrypt the entire drive, but if worse comes to worst, I'll use OpenSSL or GPG.
