emi this forum saw its heyday at a time when NetBSD desktop users lacked a common place to gather, look for answers and share opinions. Around that same time , I think there was also a sort of fracture within the FreeBSD comminity, which led some users to move to other systems (other BSDs, illumos) or away from FreeBSD forums.
We also tried our best to document things which weren't documented on the NetBSD wiki and somehow lower the entry barrier for newcomers. This is no more the case as documentation for desktop use has improved a lot. Many doubts, shortcomings, and common misunderstandings surrounding BSDs were discussed and solved here and many useful hints were provided.
The Fediverse, Discord, and to a certain extent Matrix, have replaced fora in the meantime.
We probably reached a plateau now, as it happened before with other BSD fora, and that's ok. Clearly, many early users and contributors of this forum have moved away; so, ideally, we should hope in a certain influx of new users, which realistically, will only arrive if we provide new original content.
