Using cwm - gsettings not working (no schemas installed)

Heya!

I'm setting up netbsd, and I notice that some things are not working correctly with cwm, but work fine with the default wm.

Specifically I have a few lines in .xsession

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme Adwaita

and it says in .xsession-errors: "No schemas installed".

I also noticed that some apps are broken, like luakit, but those too work fine in the default wm.

Any clue what I'm missing? I've added dbus but that didn't help.

I get a different, but understandable, message:

Understandable because I'm not running Gnome and no other program has created that schema. All I have is:

These're created in /usr/pkg/share/glib-2.0/schemas/*.xml and have values set (by programs) in ~/.config/glib-2.0/settings (eg. keyfile there).

rvp I debugged the issue some more and it seems Adwaita issue is unrelated.

I solved my issue by adding an env var

GSETTINGS_SCHEMA_DIR= usr/pkg/share/glib-2.0/schemas

Although my cursor is still not Adwaita for some reason.

For your issue, do you have gsettings-desktop-schemas installed? Typically I get your error when I haven’t installed that.

mccd Following up, I was now also able to resolve my issue with icons.

Icons are added in /usr/pkg/share/icons.

However, from the xcursor manual

       Xcursor  (mostly)  follows  the freedesktop.org spec for theming icons.
       The  default  search  path  it  uses  is  ~/.icons,   /usr/share/icons,
       /usr/share/pixmaps,   /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/icons.   Within  each of these
       directories, it searches for a directory using the theme name.   Within
       the  theme directory, it looks for cursor files in the 'cursors' subdi-
       rectory.  It uses the first cursor file found along  the path.

To resolve, I symlinked the icons to /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/icons and it worked.

mccd Xcursor.3 also mentions XCURSOR_PATH. Does that work too? Then, you can put these in ~/.Xresources:

Xcursor.theme:          Adwaita
Xcursor.theme_core:     true

Yes! I changed from the symlink solution and instead added

export XCURSOR_PATH="/usr/pkg/share/icons"

Works excellent now. 🙂

mccd OK, but, I think the proper fix is to add /usr/pkg/share/icons to ICONDIR (and __XCURSORPATH__) in /usr/src/external/mit/xorg/lib/libXcursor/Makefile (for native X11).

This'll need some discussion--prolly on the X11 mailing-list.

EDIT: and also ask about installing the default themes. They're present in tree in /usr/xsrc/external/mit/xcursor-themes but're not hooked up to the build.
