MIPS architecture is dead?!

I saw last news that in March 2021, Wave Computing announced that the development of the MIPS architecture has ceased but some licensees still could continue with new extension of MIPS-compatible ISAs on their own. Was the architecture open or does it continue closed? Are there news about this? Is there possibilite of architecture to be developed and thus to be used to make devices like those currently produced? Or is it the end?

The Terms & Conditions in site footer is about website itself content. I understood this. My question is about MIPS architecture! Was the architecture open and free royalties or remains closed or come back to be closed? Do the MIPS Company want that others use the architecture?

MIPS is an open architecture and the core instruction set is not covered by patents, that's why it's often used for research projects.

But still can it commercial use? If it can't then it go to dead in my opinion!
