Where to get a CURRENT binary kernel + modules?

Hello everyone, I am always confused and lose a lot of time searching where I can get a binary version of the latest HEAD (or CURRENT?) kernel + modules already precompiled for netBSD.

1 - what link do you generally use?
2 - could you report how do you install the netbsd kernel + modules?

I generally for the kernel just make a backup of the current one, so mv /netbsd /netbsd.old and then copy the newer one on /netbsd. What about modules though?

Here. Then, as root (or in single-user mode):

tar -C/ -xf kern-GENERIC.tar.xz
tar -C/ -xf modules.tar.xz

Use sysutils/sysupgrade. See Chapter 4. Upgrading NetBSD. What you want is configure sysupgrade to point to the latest nightly build, which means uncommenting:

# Upgrade to the latest snapshot of the current branch
RELEASEDIR="https://nycdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/HEAD/latest/$(uname -m)"
[...]
# Archive file extension of the sets.
ARCHIVE_EXTENSION=tar.xz

Inside /usr/pkg/etc/sysupgrade.conf.

After which:

$ sysupgrade kernel    # pulls the latest kernel
$ sysupgrade modules   # pulls modules

Please read the sysupgrade(8) man page.

I prefer to use sysinst from a newer image and overwrite the old one with the new one.

Been doing like this all the time and never used sysupgrade. I like it beter because I will always shutdown at the end avoiding any potential mismatch between the kernel version and userland tools version.

Look around there, mate. The "latest" binaries for 8.x, 10.x and -HEAD are also on the same site.

9.0 daily
10.0 daily
HEAD daily

I guess 9.0 daily is the latest STABLE 9 version, which should correspond to 9.3 right?

10.0 daily is the stable 10.0 version and then HEAD is the CURRENT, like the unstable latest developed version right?

Ok upgraded and everything is fine, my camera is working now.

But I have another problem which was not there before. My ttys have a super low resolution,
while before TTYs after few seconds of booting had a higher resolution.

Yes and no. Yes, 9.0 is now 9.3

No, these are daily images for all the support releases + current.
The daily images contain fixes which are not present in release.

For my use case, it makes no difference because I'm running current, so upgrading one a week. But, for the others, I would never run RELEASE, it's static and gets no security fixes. The best option is to run STABLE, which is RELEASE + updates. These are the images you see on the link.

9.0 daily
10.0 daily

Daily snapshots of the "STABLE" branches for the 9.x and 10.x lines. This is were important fixes are backported from the current ("HEAD") branch.
The NetBSD 9.x lines keeps being supported, maintained and actively developed even after the release of 9.0-RELEASE (and this is were 9.1->9.3 come from), as well as after branching NetBSD-10 and releasing 10.0_BETA (and this is were the 9.0_STABLE daily snapshots and the upcoming 9.4 come from).
The NetBSD 10.x lines will keep being developed even after releasing 10.0 (producing 10.0_STABLE daily snapshots, which are now temporarily tagged as 10.0_BETA) and is being actively developed after announcing beta version, which everyday pulls significant changes and fixes from the HEAD (-current) development branch.
The HEAD branch is always named N.99.XX, where N is the number of the most recently branched line (in this case 10), so HEAD is now named 10.99.XX, where XX is a growing integer.
